Thank you for this beautiful and nuanced piece of writing. I moved to Germany in 2015, and your words captured many of the feelings I’ve had when revisiting my home country—especially after the pandemic.
Best of luck to a full recovery, and happy eating!
I am also a fan of sardine in a tin. I have tried sardine tins made in many countries. So far the best goes to the sardine tins from Brittany, France. The runner up is from Portugal. (One type of unique stores in Europe is the one that sells nothing but varieties of colorful canned sardines. ) I love them all.
Being Shanghainese myself, I'm so excited to read about your round up of food adventures there!
Thanks for reading and sharing, and safe travels! Your post made me hungry.
